Originally envisaged as a knockdown & rebuild, the building was redesigned after a successful campaign by local residents to retain the existing building. Whilst having no heritage value, and a questionable colour scheme, the auction rooms have become a local landmark. The design retains the original brick façade, with its steel windows and a large central courtyard space allows the original building structure to be expressed internally. A retail component is proposed for the ground floor corner, where the original building fabric will be retained.
