This is a renovation project of a 30 year old wooden house located in the suburbs of Tokyo. Although this old house needed complete retrofitting of facilities and finish surfaces, the client requested that we also retain much of the natural charm of the original building. To achieve this we chose to keep the timber columns and beams unpainted, use sliding shoji screens, and make subtle divisions between inside and outside with louver screens.
