Mistura Gastronomic Fair 2012
First Place in Private Competition
Celebrating the fifth edition of Latin America's most important gastronomic fair, Mistura presented itself this year with a proposal aimed at surpassing all previous editions. One of the main highlights of the event was the focus on Andean grains, paying tribute to over 350 producers from different regions across the country. With more than 160 food stands open to the public, the intervention needed to embody the ideas of interaction and connectivity among Peru’s three regions: coast, highlands, and jungle.
The architectural strategy was to create a conceptual cross-sectional layout that would cut through these three regions, organizing the various activities within the fair. The coastal area was designated as the container for the open space, entrance area, pisco hall, and restaurant zone. The highlands housed the "Breads of Peru" section and the Creativity Auditorium, which was covered by a structure representing the Andes mountains. Restaurants, regional kitchens, and huariques (local eateries) extended toward the jungle sector, which featured a culminating structure showcasing Peruvian chocolate and coffee, ending in a market area.
The proposal created spaces for visitor interaction, always connected to areas of service and attention. The spatial rhythm worked effectively and achieved the intended connectivity envisioned during the conceptualization phase. Mistura 2012 fulfilled its most important goal: to offer a complete experience of Peruvian gastronomy, culture, and diversity.
