Designed in 1989 in a “desert contemporary” style, this home
had been remodeled into a confusing mix of Tuscan interiors hiding inside a
bland contemporary shell.
The challenge was to strip away the previous remodel to
reveal, clarify, and refine the home’s core interior while reinforcing the
strong exterior geometries that remained.
The principal spaces of the home were reorganized to celebrate
desert living and exploit the use of natural light and outdoor spaces. The kitchen was moved from its dark interior
location to an outside wall that folds back onto a dining courtyard. Similarly, the master suite now opens to the
pool terrace and its own private patio nearly doubling its apparent size while
the terrazzo floors of the living room extend past tall glass doors the covered
patios beyond.Transformed, rethought, and confident in its style the home
sits proudly against the backdrop of desert hills as a uniquely modern, desert
inspired oasis.
