In 2009, HED was hired to do a comprehensive master plan to address all potential projects supported by the approved bond measure. Originally the district wanted to tear down existing ‘finger’ buildings to develop new, two-story classroom and lab buildings; requiring a significant amount of disruption and associated interim housing. HED proposed restoring the existing classrooms, within a limited time frame, and building a new math / science building on an existing underutilized parking lot; allowing for the new building to be built, before ‘surge’ space was needed. After move-in, the existing classrooms were renovated. HED was able to streamline the schedule and reduce the cost of interim housing by about $500,000.
