The driving idea of the project is to stimulate the area and convert the
urban void into a spine for prospective continuous development of the space and
its functionality. The goal is individualization of the GAP through the
resources of light, sound, material, kinetic movement, that have been taken
down from abstract level to visual and sensory perception.
The
design is based on a distinct contrast between the spaces allotted for special
activities and events, united and harmonized by the clusters of stroll gardens.
The variety of green areas comprises a mist garden, a floating garden and a
nocturnal garden, while trellises with bindweeds and heated walls with lush
tropical plants act as natural separators. Throughout the gardens there are secluded
areas for leisure and relaxation. A host of intertwined wooden board paths
crosses the site, allowing people to filter freely through the park. Along both
waterfronts the park has a strong presence through a series of prominent steps
and access ramps as well as through an art pavilion and two open galleries
facing Ogden Slip. The massive hole is transformed into a main stage – now this
field becomes a large expanse of openness and is ideal for organized events,
sport games and informal recreation. A catwalk and a separate small performance
area are parts of the overall provision without dominating the design. The
flexibility of functional areas makes possible the mutation of the place according to the time of day.
Our
design proposal is a statement of intent, an open invitation for further
exploration. We conceive the hypothetical alphabet, the toolkit
which the proposal is composed from. This toolkit’s aim is to mould the
environment for the potential interception of people and spaces, functions and activities.
We propose to give the urban architectural space a new guise by creating a
landscape of elements. The four season concept defines the applied materials. We
incorporate human experience of environment hence the layout responds to the
occupant’s needs, forms his living realm andadmits
dynamic modification; it communicates and engages the visitor both emotionally
and from the utility viewpoint.
