The importance of this project can be summarized as follows :
1. The constraints of a narrow linear site that was considered unusable for a residence were tackled to accommodate a single story house as per the aging couple’s need.
2. The use of cost effective and energy efficient materials that were locally available to construct with local skilled and unskilled labour, not only made the building affordable but also promoted the local economy, with the efficient use of natural resources and labour.
3. Local sensibilities of roof form with vernacular architectural features like ‘jallis’, gable roofs and ‘mangalore tiles’ married with pergolas, sliding windows and gates ensure natural ventilation, lighting and response to the context of site and climate.
4. Zoned private, semi-private and public areas are treated both by hard and soft landscaping that allow percolation of rainwater to recharge the ground water table and allow for the growth of local plant species.
