The powerful architectural language is rooted in the dramatic contrast between the building’s overall bulk and its lightweight transparent components. Specifically, the functional components are clad in stone in contrast to the operable wall panels. Furthermore, a seemingly heavy material, steel, is skillfully transformed into a lightweight roof whose design inspiration is the club’s logo. Each T-type member is structurally significant, yet together they form a delicate lattice through which sunlight comes through. The owners became very convinced of this idea as evident by their insistence on keeping the roof design intact during value engineering.
It is also worth mentioning the way in which the project utilizes the power of architecture to control context, views and light. The openings frame surrounding views and allow for suitable daylight. The large number of operable walls allows for flexible responses to various climate conditions, so that even without air conditioning, a comfortable environment can be provided.
