Collaborative Symbiosis: Humanity, Science, Technology, Art, and Nature
As the central building of Midea Group's new headquarters, the Midea Science Exhibition Center embodies the philosophy of "perfection in technology, beauty in life" through architecture that merges technological precision with artistic expression. Its composition of three horizontally stacked semi-cubes creates a minimal yet varied spatial hierarchy, symbolizing technological diversity and innovation. The building is set within a reflective water landscape, evoking Lingnan garden traditions and forming a spiritual core for the corporate campus, while its alignment with the He Art Museum establishes a dialogue between science and humanities.
Resonant Interconnection: The Unbounded Flow of Space
The Center reinterprets traditional Chinese courtyard architecture through a contemporary lens. A column-free interior allows circulation to unfold naturally around a central space, creating boundless spatial flow. Soft natural light filters through three tiers of water pools, enhanced by intelligent motorized sunshade louvers that auto-adjust for optimal exhibition lighting. The water features above the skylights introduce nature's serenity into the interior, crafting an ethereal and mysterious atmosphere that blurs boundaries between inside and outside.
Responsive Awareness: Precision and Order
Precision manifests through a facade of high-purity white artificial stone and large-size ultra-clear glass, giving the building a rigorous technological character. The interior continues this minimalist approach, where white walls and seamless flooring create a neutral backdrop for high-tech exhibits. This deliberate simplicity highlights the dialogue between humans and technology while providing flexibility for future content updates. The materiality also establishes a compelling contrast with Tadao Ando's fair-faced concrete architecture of the adjacent He Art Museum, creating a unique architectural conversation.
