This scheme replaced a single dwelling with two new detached 2 storey dwellings. The steeply sloping site, combined with a covenant not to exceed the existing ridge height, and a local planning preference for a pitched roof form created a considerable constraint for the design to work within.
The result is a full storey cut into the bank to form a series of courtyard spaces with retaining walls, and to create as much south facing garden space in front of the dwellings as possible. The project uses 160 600mm diameter contiguous concrete piles, along with considerable earthworks and drainage alterations to enable the development.
