Double Wall Design Solution
Problem:
A large two bedroom, two bath apartment with a lot of wasted space at the entry and an existing closet in the center of the room. The Family of four that purchased this apartment, wanted to be able to have their kitchen and dining storage expand into this space. They also needed a designated work area separate from the rest of the apartment.
Solution:
Prototype 2.0 is the Double Wall Design Solution, designed to divide space, at 18" deep and 16' long. The system was designed to act as a wall when all ganged together and lightly touch the shell of the apartment by pushing away at all surfaces in tension. So if the clients decide to move, they can remove the system and take it with them, and the 'wall' will not leave any residue of its former installation.
It allows for the family's daily needs for 24 hours, 7 days a week in a part of their apartment that has the most activity.
Results:
The wall system comes in 3 parts. The 'front' is a series of storage spaces to serve as pantry and kitchen/dining storage, and in the middle is a bar area to center entertainment between the living and dining rooms in front of it. At the short end we have a shoe closet facing the front door to keep items off the floor, and then a moment to sit and put down your things on the bench. The 'back' has hooks for coats, desk pedestal file and an arts and crafts closet for the children. The unit against the 'wall' acts as two desk areas for husband and wife with the ability to keep an eye on their playing children and still get privacy in between.
These pieces were designed to be standard sizes so they could be interchangeable, providing a custom layout per client. Life is dynamic, and so space should be too. Our prototype 2.0 introduces a more organized and integrated lifestyle to its users, encouraging wellbeing by design.
