Miami Art Institute is a case study for the well-knownart supporter and developer Craig Robins. Situated inthe Design District of Miami next to I-195 highway thisbuilding attempts to be a host for artists, educators andcollectors. Program consists of art school, studios forlive-in artists and residences for profit. Location andpurpose of the institute suggest a building thatpromotes art and attracts attention. The concept is tocreate an urban display for the art processes inside, engaging visitors and community. Permanentscaffolding allows artists to interact with the buildingand address the city. In order avoid perfect ion andintimidation of a brand new building the proposeddesign is purposefully wrinkled and deformed toencourage messiness. Street-level performance space, open to the public workshops, galleries and open-airterraces facilitate communal life.
