MG Rohr, a specialized supplier of seamless and welded tubes and other special materials and half products for the needs of the automobile industry, metal treatment industry and building industry commissioned Projektant architects to design a new multipurpose production, warehouse and headquarter building in the context of an agricultural landscape at the edge of the comercial zone in peripheral city of Ravne na Koroškem. The 2500 square meters project was, developed and completed on time/ on budget in 2017-2018.
The plan is organized in a cluster of three programs: production, warehouse and a office building of 600 square meters, with offices, conference rooms, and cafeteria with views to the south and the Karawanks a continuation of the Carnic Alps .
The open facade design offers offset views for the workers into the landscape and help scale the building up in the context of the landscape.
The shed roofs mimic the nearby modernist industrial complex of Ravne steel factory, a geometry that extends down the facades as articulated in sheet metal, glass, and translucent c-glass, an approach avoiding the monotony of typical „big-box“ typologies that proliferate near much of Slovenian industrial areas.
The factory is exemplified by a flexible layout that enhances the workspace and improves the processes for the things that are made there.
