The theme that we gave the project was to sinthesize 4 mexican aspects into architecture:
1) Mexico was a lake. When discovered, very modern thinking people thought: lets do our city. Here!
2) Houses where built in pilotis above water.
3)The two dominant urban patterns where orthogonal in larger cities and "broken plate"patterns, typical in mine towns.
4) Ancient Mexican Architecture has been recognizable because, among other things, textures that define building's skin. In this case, we refered to Mitla and gave the texture of shadows into carved walls.
5) Markets: Mexican tradition has magenta canvas coverings. I asked once a lady that sold fruit in a farmers market why all market coverings had that color. She explained that with the sun light through magenta colores canvas, fruit looks gorgeous and fresh.
We tried to reproduce all five concepts into a modern piece of architecture.
