The design of the developer’s property display centre has always been a significant part of the real estate presales industry in Taiwan. This property display centre is located in one of the bare units inside the actual apartment for sale. Conventionally, a display centre and mock-up unit often focus on showcasing a "style", with forms, materials, and lighting to achieve a rather flattened, picturesque scene. We aim to evoke buyers’ "sense of presence" upon their visit, hoping to associate their spatial experience of their future home, by projections of their own imagination, and ultimately, to generate a space that is able to reflect the quality and value of the developer’s vision.
The service system of the building is deliberately obscured and yet remains visible. Dusky green paint covers the underside of the floor slab above, the structural beams, service ducts and pipes, forming a calming background. The ceiling lighting grids on the other hand redefined the internal ceiling silhouette, and enabled flexibility for custom alteration of the lighting tracks.
“Cornices and profiles (three-dimensional mouldings) are ancient architecture's truly abstract components: non-representative and formally derived. Profiles, have been architecture's means of orchestrating light and dark, thereby bringing focus to a building's components and reinforcing its primary formal organization.” ---- Luigi Moretti, “The Values of Profiles”
In this space, the use of moulding diverts away from the classical style approach to emphasize columns, floors, windows, and roofs; nor is it a stylized interior decoration, using extruded profiles as means of representation. We perceive these profile extrusions as an abstract morphological element, the moulding columns represent spatial folds in motion and fragment the vertical structural division, that emphasizes the horizontality of the window openings. It triggers a sense of emerging dynamics in the static space.
The recessed floor slabs in the wet area of the unit are designated as planters. It naturally distinguishes the zoning and also creates a flowing sensation. The "sense of presence" acts like a filter that brings out a unique spatial experience in a bare unit. In this concrete urban jungle, we submerge in our wildest mirage to be in an oasis, eager for a breath of fresh air.
