The Metro Youth Park is located in the City of Burnaby in Bonsor Park near Metrotown. The site is located between two skytrain stations and near an existing recreation facility. The park is intended to serve the south west quadrant of Burnaby.
Problem Statement: To create a skateboard park that integrates with the site features and provides a facility for a wide range of youth activities.
Design Solution: The park is divided into three distinct zones. This responds to the design resulting from the youth workshops. There is a beginner zone, a bowl zone and a “real” street zone. Site elements for non skate park users are included to provide “hangout” locations to watch the skaters, shade structures, drinking fountains, pathways and a playground.
