Completed in 2011, the penthouse of this famed Chelsea building—designed by architect Shigeru Ban—features two large roofs, additional terraces, and interior plantings.
VERDANT created a broad collection of distinctive landscape spaces that considered the varying conditions of each terrace type. Our clients had a deep passion for plants and we worked with them to create a collection of unique trees and cohesive underplantings: featuring over ten varieties of Japanese maples, a selection of native trees, and unusual Japanese pines.
A sedum installation visible from the master bathroom balcony covers the ballasted roof below without interrupting views across the Lower Manhattan skyline.
An array of interior plants including a15-foot ficus tree and additional small selection table-top planters unites the interior and exterior living spaces.
The Metal Shutter House is located across the street from Frank Gehry’s IAC Headquarters, steps from the Highline Park, marking one of the early additions to Architects’ Row. Located on West 19th street featuring dramatic views of the Hudson River, the Empire State Building, and The Highline.
