“Meta-Memories” is the new residential resort designed by 314 architecture studio located in the
idyllic island of Paros, of the Cyclades, Greece. This project draws its inspiration from the
classical ruins of ancient Cycladic villages, seamlessly blending the old with the new to create a
tranquil and luxurious retreat.
CONCEPT
Specifically, the team at 314 architecture studio designed “Meta-Memories” to harmonize and
blend in with its stunning natural surroundings. The resort offers a serene escape, embodying the
essence of Cycladic culture and history while providing modern comforts and amenities to its
guests.
INSPIRATION FROM CYCLADIC ARCHITECTURE
The architects drew their inspiration from the traditional architecture of the ruins of the
Cyclades, characterized by its simplicity, whitewashed buildings, and cubic forms. This
architectural style, renowned for its minimalism and functionality, serves as the foundation for
the resort's aesthetic. “Meta-Memories” draws upon the ancient villages’ layout, materials, and
connection to the landscape. The resort features structures that echo the cubic forms and terraced
designs of Cycladic architecture.
The inclined terrain of the resort is not just a backdrop but a defining feature of the design. To
adapt to the inclined level, the resort employs a terraced layout. This approach allows for
multiple levels of living spaces that cascade down the slope, creating a sense of depth and
dimension. With each room on a different level, all the terraces overlook the breathtaking view
of the island, providing a sense of privacy and connection to nature.
One of the main advantages of the inclined level is the unobstructed views it provides. Large
windows and open terraces are strategically placed to capture panoramic vistas of the Aegean
Sea and the surrounding landscape. This design ensures that guests can enjoy stunning sunrises
and sunsets from the comfort of their rooms.
The terraced design allows for a thoughtful division between private and communal spaces.
Private rooms and suites are nestled into the hillside, offering secluded retreats with private
balconies or terraces. Communal areas, such as lounges, dining spaces, and pools, are positioned
to maximize social interaction and enjoyment of the scenic surroundings.
INTEGRATION WITH NATURE
The resort is designed to blend harmonically with its environment. Large windows and open
spaces create a sense of openness, allowing guests to feel connected to the landscape. Terraces
are integral to the design, providing private outdoor spaces for relaxation and contemplation.
These areas are designed to capture the beauty of the Cycladic scenery, offering stunning views
of the sea and the surrounding landscape.
The resort employs eco-friendly practices and materials. Natural materials such as local stone
and wood are used to create a sense of fluidity between the built and natural environments,
ensuring durability and sustainability.
Through thoughtful design, “Meta-Memories” provides a luxurious and serene escape for those
seeking to experience and explore the magic of the Cyclades.
