Located at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Estoria, the concrete
remains of a stalled condo development provide a constant reminder to
passersby of the boom then bust cycle that so enveloped the Memorial
Drive corridor over the last ten years. The stretch between 75/85 and
Moreland was on the cusp of radically transforming itself when the
economy tanked. Walking along the street one can feel how close it came
to having the same kind of rejuvenation that Midtown West has enjoyed
over the last few years. The shells of buildings waiting for the right
price and the empty lots begging for a pro-forma that works are fertile
ground for architectural explorations. This projects looks at the
townhouse typology and how it might add a pedestrian scale to this busy
thoroughfare.
