A six-story facade of an audio company clad with black-anodized folded aluminum panels coated with PE for anti-scratch, dust and resistance. The facade is designed to show the magnifying effect and also at the same time the light-weight quality of aluminum. Each panel is folded with interlocking joints to achieve rigidity and stiffness which allows them to be stacked-up for 35-meters high.
The patterns and the design of the facade is inspired by audio frequency of an oscilloscope and the analog technology of audio equipments. The interior space with its light palette, soft-form and open space quality provides a stark contrast and at the same time as an equilibrium to the metallic dark facade.
The façade and interior design of the building play an important role in shaping experience and telling the narration of Melodia Musik, an audio visual company focusing on technology and sound. Starting from the façade as the first interaction that greets the visitors, and into the building that encapsulates and facilitates the dynamics of the narration. Through a cohesive approach, the design serves as the embodiment of the company’s vision and values. Composed of folded aluminum panels with black matte finish, the façade represents precision and a blend between technology and art like the company itself. In contrast, the interior design is dominant with soft shapes and soft-palette, to represent the company’s character as warm, embracing, and modern.
The six-story building house has variety of programming on each floor. On the ground level, it has the lobby reception with coffee shop and flexible space for company events. The retail shops and service center are located on the second and third floor while the fourth floor has the Music School. On the fifth and sixth level are offices and training facilities for the company.
The design and choices of material are about functionality, practicality and durability. The interlocking zig-zag arrangement on the facade responds to the building as it faces west. This arrangement helps reduce direct sunlight, as well as projecting a contrasting effect on the building. This is important because the products that are displayed in the store are sensitive to sun exposure. Each of the panel is made of 2mm thin aluminum panels (folded on the edge for stiffness) and interlocks at four points, giving the facade a strong and rigid structural system. Due to the nature of anodized and PE coating of the aluminum panels, the light reflections changes the colors of the facade as the sun moves throughout the day, giving the facade a more dynamic and ephemeral feeling.
The interior design is a series of soft edges and curves with contrasting tones of blacks and whites as well as natural elements with white-oak wood and robustness of textured concrete wall. The ambience of the space is fluid, open, and neutral, making the products and displays in the store the spotlight.
