FIRST PRIZE_ex Convento dei Cappuccini_ redevelopment and new destination
(international competition)
BACKGROUND
An historical building, abandoned and in a degrading state, an urban neighborhood to be redeveloped, a historical context rich in architectural and cultural emergencies, a complex system of traditions and culture, an agricultural and entrepreneurial reality.
CONCEPT
The project represents a specific opportunity to apply new models of restoration’s interventions, fruition, interaction and management on the wide subject and current urban regeneration of the architectural and cultural heritage of our country.
The common need when you face the goal of spreading culture is to have a place that help the sharing process and encourage people to have a leading role in it while stopping being passive users.
We propose a technological and flexible place that can certainly show culture and host local cultural processes by offering free or payable spaces and tools.
ARCHITECTURAL RENOVATION
The intervention’s aim is to reinforce the static consolidation of the building, restore the original façade that faces the square, reactivate the structural and architectural elements, preserve the existing interior plan and finally to respect the laws and normative of security and accessibility, as well as apply the adjustments adapted to the new exhibit and museum identity by preserving a reversibility.
The ex-novo intervention can be identified by the addition of missing components such as entries, vertical connections (elevator, stairs), doors and windows.
A new floating technical floor will distribute the plants (managed by automation systems) all over the building. Lighting and exhibit panels are integrated and hooked to the floating floor. Most walls and ceilings will be left untouched.
