THE GUIDE
LINES FOR THE DESIGN OF THIS COFFEE HOUSE, SITUATED
NEAR THE AJUDA PALACE, WERE BASED ON THE "IDEA
OF COFFEE HOUSE" BY GEORGESTEINER AND RELATED
WITH THE CONCEPT OF THE SEDUCTION PLACE OF THE
PREVIOUS PROJECT.
THE RESPONSE TO THE PROPOSED PROGRAM CAME BY
THE RELATIONSHIP OF TWO VOLUMES, ONE INTERIOR AND THE
OTHER EXTERIOR , ONE REPRESENTING THE MASS AND THE OTHER
THE ABSENCE OF MASS (RESPECTIVELY THE
ESPLANADE AND THE MAIN BODY) IN CONNECTION WITH
THE OBJECT OF THE PREVIOUS PROJECT.
THE BUILDING IS
ORIENTED TO THE SOUTH , FAVORING THE VIEW TO
THE RIVER, THANKS TO
ITS STATUS OF A PROMONTORY. THE PROJECT EVOKES
THE IDEA OF AN ISLAND DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF
A TANK THAT SUBMERGES PART OF THE
BUILDING, AND CREATES A VISUAL CONTINUM
BETWEEN THE MIRROR OF THE WATER TANK AND
THE TAGUS RIVER.
THE SERVICE
ZONE IS ALL GROUPED IN ONE BLOCK , CREATED BY A
METAMORPHOSIS OF THE PRE-EXISTING WALL. THIS
BLOCK ALSO AGREGATES ALL THE ACCESSES TO THE
COFFEE HOUSE LIBERATING THE REST OF THE BLOCK.
