The main idea of this project was to create a comfortable, fresh store where the products would be offered either as raw materials for customers to buy or cooked in traditional recipes, in order to promote the Mediterranean gastronomy. The restaurant, named “Our kitchen”, is located in Limnos island, Greece.
In terms of look and feel, the space reminds of a home atmosphere, a familiar space, as if we are in our own kitchen. The selected materials are simple and create a cozy feeling, avoiding a heavy, maximal decoration.
In terms of functionality, the space is divided in two areas: “to-go” area for consumption outside the restaurant, and self-service sitting area, where customers order, take their food and sit at the tables.
In terms of service, the customers are mainly self-serviced, and the store has only a few tables.
Innovations of the chosen design:
1. Material: Natural materials are used throughout the space, to emphasize and promote the connection with nature. The furniture and decorative elements are mainly of wood, while the service bench is made of ceramic tiles. Big windows allow the penetration of natural light and minimize the need of artificial lighting. For the walls painting the material used is kourasanit, an eco-friendly material which creates a traditional feeling with a contemporary look.
2. Customer experience: The design facilitates the circulation of customers in the store, minimizing traffic issues. Even though the restaurant operates on a self-service basis, the large service bench and the set-up of the space eliminate long waiting queues, improving the total customer experience.
