Located in the 3rd district in Vienna, the design is an extension to an existing campus. Accessible from all directions by foot, a public sidewalk is part of the site as well as renovated buildings and new constructions across the campus, arranged around a central park.
Clear building edges and a clear definition of in-between-spaces are characteristic for the urban structure. Horizontal shifts of individual floors produce a certain movement within a tight urban guideline creating diversified outdoor areas. A green area in the north is dragged into the building, a staircase leading to the basement and a double floor height roofed terrasse form a soft transition into the inside of the building.
Three different departments are arranged within the building and visible at first sight. A horizontal movement brings structure and defines outdoor terrasses and visual connections.
An access zone with galleries, breaks and prominent openings of different sizes provide various view angles within as well as outside the building.
The main entrance is located on the northern side of the building leading to an entrance zone. A staircase of 4 meter width connects the outdoor park area with the underground, representing another entrance for events held at one of the downstairs event spaces being connected to the ground floor.
An accessible ramp leads to the ground floor with a connecting common elevator for all three departments. On each floor sanitary facilities for all departments are accessible from the common zone providing an economic solution.
