Before the design process began, Bart Cleveland,
the Creative Director at MWC, asked the staff to provide a list of words to
describe the perfect working environment. The most popular words – timeless,
inspiring, open, airy, functional, comfortable, innovative, healthy, alive,
unique, and urban – were the driving force behind the design. Two main axes intersect
to generate the form of the building.
One axis is related to the street, the other to the sun. At the point of intersection are light filled
atrium spaces. These spaces bring light
deep into the building, draw breezes to help cool, and allow visual
connection. A curvilinear hallway provides
a main axis of circulation, while allowing interior spaces to unfold slowly as
you walk through. Grand circular
staircases flank each end of the hallway for a fun connection between the two
floors.
