Designed to compliment its alpine site while challenging the
conventions of cabin architecture, this home resolves into a contemporary, yet
highly contextual interpretation of the traditional forms found in the
surrounding neighborhood. The challenge lay in its organizational requirement that
specific zones be separated to accommodate the lifestyle of its owner. Individual roof elements begin to identify
the organization of the program in plan as public and private zones are
intentionally isolated by location and by the use of distinct geometries.Additionally, the home is categorized and organized
vertically with the social areas of the great room on the lower level, the
guest bedrooms on the middle level, and the owner’s suite and more intimate
living areas on the upper level. The
upper floor becomes a private zone to which the owner can retreat to enjoy the
mountain views and a sense of quiet, insulated from the guest bedrooms and
social spaces below.
