In 2013, fast food chain McDonalds aimed to introduce their internationally successful ‘McCafe’ brand to India. Having completing more than 50 design builds for McDonald’s in various formats across India, Lewis and Hickey India were commissioned to work on a radically new concept.
The brief was to advance the established ‘family restaurant’ image and integrate a new café format with distinct appeal to the youth.
Envisaged with fresh and youthful graphics, vibrant colours and textures, a new visual palette was created. Individual elements were developed and detailed to tie into the new branding concept, including the floating light box, lounge seating, bar stools, poufs, indoor-outdoor areas and a new language of wall graphics.
Through the introduction of new elements and a variation of character and experiences within the same store, India’s first McCafe experience at Crossroads Mall, Mumbai, was a huge success.
