The Center for Architecture Sarasota seeks to foster the public’s understanding of architecture and the myriad ways it enriches the Sarasota region.
It is a place where students, design professionals, community leaders and the public can come together to admire, discuss and debate our built environment. A design studio. A classroom. An exhibit space. A lecture hall. The Center aspires to advance education and promote public engagement with architecture through a program of tours, exhibitions, lectures, films, and other special events.
The renovated facility will be a place for Center for Architecture Sarasota, UF CityLab-Sarasota and for anyone interested in architecture, design and the quality of our built environment to learn, teach, celebrate, share and advocate. The facility will include studio space, offices, and program space for both UF CityLab-Sarasota and The Center. Students, professionals and the public will visit The Center to hold meetings, participate in discussions, and attend presentations by regional, national and international experts.
Center for Architecture Sarasota will restore the Scott Building to its beautiful and minimal modernist aesthetic so eloquently expressed by Rupp and Farrell in 1960 and to develop these spaces into a museum-quality exhibition space and a lecture hall with state-of-the-art communication and presentation technologies.
