Mátria, located in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, is a flower park conceived as a tribute to nature, to the earth, and to life. It represents a rare privilege for an architect: to design a space entirely dedicated to contemplation and connection with the natural world.
Developed in collaboration with renowned landscape architect Juliana Castro, from JA8, and in partnership with the family that owns the land, the project is the result of collective work imbued with dedication, joy, and sensitivity. Each path, each garden, and each element has been designed to invite visitors to connect with plants, living beings, and countless forms of vegetation. Mátria is a place for meeting, walking, and contemplation, created to provide moments of tranquility and reflection.
The park is structured around three main architectural elements that organize the visitor’s experience. The Boulevard marks the entrance to Mátria and concentrates the welcoming functions, such as shops, cafés, and restrooms, establishing the first point of contact with the landscape. By the lake, Baffi houses a bistro restaurant, offering a place to pause, gather, and enjoy the surroundings. Farfalla, in turn, is conceived as a spiritual monument—a space of introspection surrounded by flowers that attract butterflies, symbolizing transformation and the delicate relationship between life and nature.
Mátria restored pride and a sense of belonging within the local community. It became a reference, demonstrating how architecture and landscape design can go beyond conventional tourism, exploring new possibilities for interacting with nature. The project proposes a model of public space that respects and values life in all its forms.
Beyond design, the project involved training local residents in construction techniques, providing new skills and long-term employment. In this way, Mátria reflects Alencar’s commitment to creating possible futures that combine architecture, sustainability, and community in a project that inspires and connects.
Filled with poetry, care, and intention in every stroke and every plant, Mátria is an example of how architecture can become a true celebration of life. It represents the fulfillment of a dream: a space that unites beauty, purpose, and deep respect for the environment, inspired by the desire to create a future in which harmony between humanity and nature is a reality.
