In
a triangle shaped piece of land, far from the center, the project site, called 'Matet entre vies' (Matet in-between rails), is conditioned as a cul-de-sac by
the old train rails and the Abeurada channel . With almost no chance of real
and sentimental link with the city centre, Matet bets towards a multiple strategy to
re-set up as a periphery neighborhood able to generate association and
identity, and at the same time being attractive:1. Diversity/redundancy:
diversity of events, of spaces and living modes and in the different ways of
wandering around the site; diversity in the quarter global scheme compared to
the rest of the sectors of the city planning, proposed under an orthodox
conception of cube-block; redundancy of paths and spatial experiences.2. Density/Intensity:
of uses, experiences, to generate a self-sufficient quarter, focused on the
non-necessity of the link to the city downtown to assure functional
necessities.3. Difference: Matet is the outsider in the periphery of
Reus, creates identity by the radical distinction in its spatial lay out.The city center offers Reus Modernism Route, based on
the exceptional quality of buildings scattered throughout the center. The
identity strategy of 'Matet entre vies' pursues to rename it as Matet Route, a new route on the periphery that
offers more than 10 hectares occupied by housing and facilities at your
disposal to create spaces and routes always different.Matet
Route bets for the exceptional quality of the space (generated by
construction) over the punctual distinction of the buildings.Matet Route proposed a settlement under a plan
whose main objective is the study of the plot and the impact it has with the
edification. The mix of plots, residential and
commercial, axial and perspective, pedestrian and vehicular, free and busy,
goes on creating and adding layers of information to
the general plan to complete in a global plot as a superposition of partial plots
to create a neighborhood with identity and character sufficient enough to generate signals of
identity.The
different patterns can be summarized as:1. Chance of escape: it offers the option of breaking the
cul-de-sac of Matet.2. Continuation
opportunity:
links with existing external plots.3. Intensity cores: as a result of the intersection of
plots 1 and 2.4. Density sectors: construction densification around the
cores of intensity5. Interstitial spaces: occupy the voids.6. Edges, no boundaries: denies the limit condition of the
periphery of Matet.7. Vehicles and galleries: track position shot at the
inside of the plan. Optimization of the need for excavation for parking
facilities and galleries.8. Equipments.9. Water, sun and waste: timely plot of elements for
recycling and energy in the form of urban sculptures. Each of
the sectors is organized from a desire to live, a concept that governs the
internal configuration of the housing as much as the spatial organization of
the overall, providing the characteristic plan and section of each sector.8 sectors of
housing, 8 configuration concepts within the common plan for 8 modes of living.Diversity in residential options, redundancy in the type form of
grouping in the shape of perimeter ring, difference in the sectors in which the
concept /desire imposes a new lay-out.The associated uses in each sector give the neighborhood the minimum
functional independence from the center, while propose activities related to
open spaces with enough appeal to attract customers and visitors. Each one of the voids/free spaces in each sector is characterized by the
concept / desire that governs it, completing 8 different voids/free spaces. All dwellings enjoy cross ventilation as well as provision of 'district
heating & cool' through the various galleries of facilities.
