The office of a young company for the repair and installation of sound equipment is located in the very center of the city of Rostov-on-Don in the former building of a watch factory, which was abandoned for a long time, and now is gradually filled with young and ambitious entrepreneurs. Local architect Roman Berdnik was called upon to transform the former workshop into a modern office.
The space consists of three rooms located around a through passage, and over the years of operation they were rebuilt many times and as a result the architect received rooms with thin wooden floors at different levels.
The complexity of the premises became the starting point for design. In the highest room, it was decided to add a suspended metal structure, which simultaneously serves as a communication tool and an additional work space.
The room with a low ceiling and a narrow window, located above the passage, was converted into an office living room, which simultaneously serves as a place for negotiations, relaxation and parties. The office of the chief is located in the third room.
The customer had a little budget, the bulk of which was spent on second-level equipment, so the architect kept the materials available at the construction site as much as possible and reused them. For example, it was not possible to make expensive plaster and the walls were cleaned down to brick to reveal its rich texture. Also in the room were partitions made of Soviet glass blocks with a different pattern, they were disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and re-laid so as to form an equalizer pattern that recalls the company's activities. The new constructions are made of white and smooth materials to contrast the virtues of the old finishes.
