The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is dedicated to accelerating the success of clean energy technologies, companies, and projects in Massachusetts while creating high-quality jobs and long-term economic growth. They provide seed investments to startup companies, fund renewable energy rebates for residents and businesses, and support the development of a local clean energy workforce. To support their mission, Bergmeyer designed the organization’s 15,000 sf office with resource efficiency, MassCEC’s brand identity and local Massachusetts businesses in mind.
In order to both reduce MassCEC’s carbon footprint, and support Massachusetts-based industries, the center was built using almost entirely Massachusetts-manufactured products; all workstation furniture was manufactured in the state. Accent and ambient lighting fixtures are all energy-efficient LEDs. The space’s original tin ceilings, tin wall covering, and brick bearing walls were exposed, restored, and freshly painted.
A large entry space with an open kitchen offers event space for presentations or large gatherings of over a hundred people. Flexibility in the workplace is maximized with locally-sourced fabric curtains, offering a quick and easy division of space for various modes of working. Lined with large panes of glass, interior private offices let in natural light and provide views throughout the office space. Using bright colors from our natural environment and MassCEC’s brand identity, the space has a clean, fresh, and airy spirit designed with a broad selection of local, sustainable materials.
