The client is a family of a couple with 2 kids. During the design process, we find out that “Watching TV” is a very important family event for the client family. Therefore we suggest to design a TV wall system with standing TV pole and locate it in the main open space to redefine living room and dining area. So that the client can definitely watch TV at living room but also watch TV at kitchen, bar, and dining area by just spinning the TV pole. The design makes the TV wall system (the mass) the center of the open space and other areas (faces) around it. This helps the activities circulating in open space ,and also adopt multiple programs and functions, like a mass with different faces.
Also, the residence unit has a huge terrace, it is very rare and special in Taiwan residential buildings. How to emphasis the terrace value and connects the indoor to the outdoor spaces is one of our main goal. By designing an angled foyer closet and turned into a wooden beam and pointing directly to the outdoor terrace, the beam connects through the entry, living room, dining room, and the terrace visually and spacially. The finish of the wooden beam intense the linear flow and the guidance sense in the open area. From the vertical foyer closet to wooden beam on roof and the metal horizontal metal shelves on the dining area wall, we try to use linear flow to free the existing 3D spacial dimension. The main open space can be fully walk-through by this linear flow and make LIVING itself to have much more layers and ideas.
