Located outside of Abu Dhabi, Masdar City is a low-carbon and pedestrian-focused innovation community designed to encourage creativity and collaboration in the midst of one of the world’s harshest climates. This unique initiative aims to create a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable city that provides the highest quality of urban life possible.
Home to the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, a number of leading renewable energy groups, shops, restaurants and residential communities, Masdar City is already redefining sustainable city-building. The city’s new detailed master plan for its second phase of development creates a highly replicable model for mixed-use innovation districts. This plan provides a flexible urban framework that encourages entrepreneurship and community building.
Phase 2 will introduce many of the city’s core elements including a research and development cluster, shops and restaurants, thriving residential neighborhoods, community centers, mosques and schools. This diverse mix of uses will be seamlessly connected by a continuous and welcoming public realm, walkable streets and a robust public transit network.
