This conceptual project is situated in Boston's Back Bay Neighborhood along the picturesque, retail lined Newbury Street near Dartmouth Street. This area is abundant with various types of shops, restaurants, residential condos and apartments, art galleries, and educational institutions. The site is a corner lot utilized as a parking lot with an abundance of pedestrian traffic. The design is for a Public Market Space, and gathering/community area. The main theme of the spaces are derived from the movement of the Islamic prayer Salat, abstracting the path one's body moves through while praying. The site is seperated by two main spaces-the street edged space being the farmers market retail space and the back space as a gathering center. Easy interaction within the spaces is provided by access from all sides of the site. The scheme is comprised of many rows of undulating slabs that create spaces underneath, pedestrian access between, and farming spaces above. The site also is equipped with a moat like pool that collects rain water, recycling it for produce growth.
