The concept for the roof was derived from looking at the nearby hills and studying the slopes that cover the landscape. The form is meant to abstractly accentuate the natural scenes that surround the hospital. The linear design not only leant itself to sustainable design but was also a continuation of the language that is already present in the building. The exposed structure is meant to be modern reflection of the building style which is present in the area. Most buildings are structurally understandable with little covering up beams and columns. Instead of using brick and timber like much of the rest of town; the emergency wing utilizes the same language with steel.
