MARCHON is one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of eyeware and sunware. Fashion oriented and technologically advanced, the firm engaged Spacesmith to renovate and expand the NYC headquarters. Marchon already occupied multiple none-contiguous floors within the building. During the economic downturn, Marchon seized the opportunity when one of the full floor plates became available and rightfully decided to join the floors with a
connecting stair. The floor plates were fully renovated in successive phases, starting with the expansion space, then the original tenant space and finally the new stair to complete the renovation. The design criteria for the installations adheres to Marchon’s quest for contemporary design and collaborative working environment. The staircase is placed in front of the window, in line with the elevator lobby and reception areas. The stair’s open risers maintain openness and let the daylight stream into the informal meeting areas at the stairs landings. On either side of the stairs, showrooms and glass walled private offices frame the shared workspace office environment and maintain the feeling of openness and of design clarity.
