A 54 sq.m. ground floor was selected to accommodate Yiannis Stamou’s architectural office, aiming at projecting creation and design.
The architectural design was based on the process followed from the conception of an idea to its illustration on paper, so as through data collection and composition to become a complete study which will be finally implemented. To this end, a plain area was created, divided imaginably in three basic functions with a march from the noise of the city (street-entrance) to the calmness of the physical environment located at the back of the office.
The first section, being the wider one, is clear, making the entrance comfortable, while a part of it has been designated to host an object also visible from the street. Walking towards the center of the office, a large workbench and a bookcase set the creation area, while at the back section with the large window that offers visual escape towards the physical environment, a large meeting and presentation table has been placed. The office is completed with the ancillary uses (kitchen, WC) and a metallic ladder which is revealed as the visitor walks through the area and leads to the loft, which is used for storing purposes.
Two more elements of design support the sensation of march. The first constitutes the angle that the workbench and the lighting appliance above it form, which invite the visitor to move around the whole area. The latter is the selection of the positioning and intensity of the lighting, which allows visibility in the entire office, towards the tall trees that are located at the back.
Finally, the design of the bookcase provides a sensation that the shelves move upwardly, while the two thin wooden bases of the workbench with their sculpture form alter the conventional perception for the use of materials.
