KDI CONTRACT was commissioned to renovate Maragkos Pharmacy, a long-standing pharmacy located in the heart of Athens, in order to enhance its image and promote its brand name. The project involved the total reconstruction of the pharmacy’s facade and the re-design of the interior so as to create a modern, elegant and welcoming pharmacy for customers of all ages.
The pharmacy is developed over three floors, the ground floor being the main commercial space, the lower ground floor housing the laboratory and the upper floor consisting of the pharmacy’s consultation/beauty cabin and the ancillary office spaces.
The spatial design of the interior motivates the incoming customers to navigate throughout the entire product collections of the pharmacy and, at the same time, maximizes the utilization of all available commercial space. Custom-made furniture, such as the multi-function oval “island” (product display-customer seating-working desk) and the illuminated counter desks, was specially designed to cater for all commercial needs and create a premium and exclusive feeling.
The exterior design of the store is based on the interaction of horizontal and vertical planes, creating a powerful and dynamic effect. An extensive research resulted in the selection of lightweight hybrid honeycomb panels as the most suitable material. The use of such advanced materials allowed the design team to apply the desirable wood and concrete texturing with minimum structural loading and enhanced durability to weather conditions. The final outcome is emphasized, during the night, with the use of special led-technology light features placed in selected areas of the facade.
