Developed from two planned streetcar routes along major thoroughfares in Arlington, VA and Washington, DC, this map proposes a fully developed streetcar network for the Northern Virginia suburbs. An analysis of the historic routes from the now defunct interurban railways of the early 20th century, current transit patterns, population densities, pedestrian and bike infrastructures, and the locations of various public facilities helped to conceptualize a contemporary streetcar solution as a viable transportation alternative. The various routes follow major thoroughfares and occasionally fully dedicated rights of way.
