Quimera, a mansion of the traditional Roma neighborhood in Mexico City with an excellent location. The main challenge of the project was developing a project inside of a protected house with an established land use permit. This was resolved with an accurate tracking of all the necessary procedures and in parallel developing a project for the restaurant that highlights the quality of the property and carries it with all dignity to another period or long and useful life.
The spaces are wide answering to the characteristic of the period and type of construction. To make the most of them all the walls were covered with black mirror to create the impression of wider areas. The natural light, the interior lighting and its reflections created a very warm atmosphere. The spatial feeling achieved allows the guests to be in an spacious ambiance that receive and welcomes them.
The house had an original and very rich woodwork which was considered as an integral part of the project combined with the new necessary furniture for operation in which stands out a discreet and functional design while maintaining the same color shade. A virtual ceiling was created with the lamps hanging at 3.25 m height, leaving the existing plafond in black color and thereby reinforcing the spaciousness of the place.
To respect the land use permit one of the project targets was to incorporate art on the walls, based on this, an installation was designed formed by 365 white ceramic pigs and 7 black; creating a dynamic and visual impact element that becomes the reference trademark of the restaurant. Wood, light and brightness are the three elements that stand out in this restaurant that takes the best of the past to combine it with functional modern elements to ensure its operation in the future.
