An18,000 square foot landmark Beaux Arts townhouse located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York. It was originally designed in 1916 by the noted architect and interior decorator Ogden Codman, Jr., who was co-author with Edith Wharton of the influential book 'The Decoration of Houses,' published in 1897. We were commissioned, along with the office of David Anthony Easton, to fully restore the residence after decades of remodeling and neglect. All of the electrical and mechanical systems were completely overhauled, while keeping intact the essential characteristics of the original house. Beyond the portecochere there is a car turntable and hand operated lift in the garage, enabling several vehicles to be parked in the basement below. The historic facade, registered with the New York City Landmarks Commission, was restored to exacting specifications. The result of the renovation serves the needs both for a contemporary family and grand entertaining.
