Located in the upper west side of
Manhattan, this ‘classic six’ will undergo a series of smart and specific modifications
to transform domestic capacity for servants to a tchotchke-free residence for urban retirement. A single wall is eliminated between kitchen
and servants quarters to create an efficient and spacious kitchen and study
allowing space for a laundry and walk-in closet to grow along an existing
wall. The living and dining areas share
set of sliding glass doors which allow separation or special continuity. When stored these doors recede into a
‘column’ which can be seen from the entry creating a dynamic visual connection
to the living spaces beyond.
