Our firm was selected to design the Center piece of the Moscow City complex. The Mall of Russia roject is a 5 block horizontal island in a forest of commercial, residential and hotel towers. It created a central pedestrian, traffic and transit access. It is complimented by the anticipated new Moscow Concert Hall and City Park. It is a space that includes the proposed new City Hall and as well represents the singular open space identity of the overall project.
The project includes 2,000,000 SF mega retail center, including public concourses, and a large public space. The project begins at the furthest end from the city park where the world class hotel and spa complex is integrated into an interior concourse of boulevards connecting the entire site through the retail complex. Two atriums, a city park on the upper level and numerous inner cross streets form the pedestrian connections to the surrounding towers and subway system.
The Moscow City Project is a pedestrian world floating above a maze of logistical networks beneath. Unlike any other major commercial project of its kind in Europe, it utilizes natural light through a truly profound level throughout the complex of 2, 3, 4 and 5 storey spaces punctuated throughout the areas beneath the atriums and gallerias to continuously give a sense of natural orientation, time of day and through the creation of the boulevard bring back to anti-loitering social environment, the “art of strolling”.
