MALHAAR, JAIPUR
This is a bungalow situated in the heart of the city. The design is focused on establishing a connection between built space and nature, such that the house appears to sit between the green landscaped spaces. Levels have been created in the landscaped area, such that each space is placed on different level. The ground floor comprises of a living area, dining area, kitchen and two bedrooms. The living/ dining area is a double- heighted space having east facing glass panels, so that natural light can enter the area directly. This also provides the residents a complete view of outdoor pool area and lawn. The first floor comprises of master bedroom, and children bedroom. The rooms are connected to each other through a lounge area. The second floor and basement comprises of entertainment and leisure spaces like home theatre, gym, lounge, and massage and sauna room.
Adding to the exterior space, lays a beautifully designed semi- open verandah looking towards swimming pool and garden. It is located on the eastern side and is directly accessible from living and dining area. Each room in the bungalow has private sit- outs. Outside the rooms on the first floor lays huge terrace area covered with planter bed. This acts as a natural filter and the person living in these spaces gets a soothing and refreshing feeling. There are large window panels in the east and north facade which ensures thermal comfort, natural light, and cross ventilation. The rainwater harvesting system has been installed to reutilize the water in household and the garden area. It is a simple technique to green the bungalow and to lessen its environmental footprint.
The external facade of the bungalow is designed using contemporary style with a mix of European roof structure. The facades have been created in levels, so that the internal spaces have a connection with outside environment. This helps to keep the internal spaces naturally lit and ventilated.
The materials are selected in a sensible manner, keeping the luxurious aesthetics of the bungalow. An ideal home is a reflection of our inner worlds with artefacts and pleasant memories strewn together seamlessly. The overarching theme was kept along contemporary lines with adequate use of stone and glass in the exteriors of the bungalow. The window and door frames are coloured in neutral tones to reflect light and leave the room well-lit even in the daytime. The internal areas have a well- developed connection between natural and artificial lighting. The wall paneling has been made out of stone having a unique carving pattern in each area. The living and walkway spaces are designed in a manner that they are overlooking the lower areas as well as have a complete view of pool and garden area. Each room follows a well-defined theme and colour scheme which is enhanced by the play of light.
