This new seniors' home in Sainte-Elisabeth is one of the first facilities of this kind in Quebec. The Maison des Aînés (MDA) concept, an enhancement to the political senior care program, inspired this proposal. The intervention is attached to a heritage building that was initially going to be demolished, but Yelle Maillé architects helped save it. The design team improved the structure's 1877-era original morphology throughout the entire process. The 42-room building's designers wanted the elders to feel as though they live in a home where interpersonal interaction is encouraged. As a result, the team created a beautiful and enjoyable space for both the users and their loved ones as well as the caregivers. The interior areas are intended to make guests feel at home, with views of the nearby vegetation and plenty of natural light. The outdoor areas are created to promote interaction and gatherings. The project, which is aiming for LEED Silver certification, will surely act as a catalyst for the local community in the Lanaudière region's Sainte-Élisabeth village.
