Mahir Lokantası where you can find Turkish traditional cuisine is located in Nisantasi, one of the most fashionable neighborhoods of Istanbul.
The main idea for this project was to create a stylish yet accessible restaurant with a warm atmosphere that felt comfortable.
The guiding principle for the overall design is to create a restaurant with a warm atmosphere, due of this principle our color palette was comprised of a harmonious and stylish combination of a very soft and reflective beige with enhanced by light shades of brown. We preferred red oak wood for the woodwork of the restaurant and used aquamarine-colored tiles in the pizza oven. Brass is the supporting material providing warmth in the lighting design as well as the Art Deco style entrance door. The combination of this colors and materials gave us the possibility to create the atmosphere that we want for the overall design.
The restaurant is located on a street corner and its double façade optimizes the sunlight. The ceiling too is upgraded in order to obtain a more open and transparent space image when viewed from the outside.
To set the pizza oven apart from other traditional pizza ovens, it is embedded in a niche, then covered with the same ceramic tiles used on one of the walls of the restaurant. The oven, easily visible from the outside, ‘whets the appetite’ of the passersby and serves the ‘stylish and inviting’ premise of the restaurant.
