Maff
Studio is the successor to Maff Apartment, which dates from the year
2007. While Maff Apartment is situated on an attic floor in a town
house looking out over the city, Maff Studio is an autonomous
building in the smallest building block of the city fabric, the
ground-level working-class house.
Maff
Studio was designed as a hotel suite without a hotel. The city around
it, with its numerous different functions and attractions, provides
the functions traditionally associated with the hotel service
package. The service level and luxury in a hotel are the prime
qualities and determinators of price for the suite. For Maff Studio,
the prima qualities are the interior space and its close proximity
the the city which provides all the additional services for its
guests.
Introducing
a void on the street side of the house, alongside with part of the
attic floor altered the existing spatial structure of the
working-class house. These two interventions ensure the spatial
quality of the house and connect the ground floor kitchen to the
first floor living, creating an experience of continuous space.
Maff
Studio contains 3 consecutive spaces, which differ with regards to
their tectonic and spatial character, creating a sequence of spaces
through the building.
