The design for this architect's studio reflects the requirement to accommodate a substantial library as well as 2 workstations and a conference table. Located in a historic building within the Madison Square North Historic District, the layout takes advantage of a prominent view of the famed Madison Square. The conference table is positioned next to the large windows for clients to view the park. The simple arrangement of desks along one wall and the bookshelves and filing cabinets along the opposite wall serve the need to leverage the small, narrow space. The 13-foot-ceiling height allows for a dramatic gesture to position 2 large spherical light fixtures to highlight the classically proportioned space. To further expand the space, strategically-placed mirrors reflect the light fixtures that appear to multiply in certain diagonal views. The limited color palette of high-gloss white walls & ceiling, dark-gray carpet, and mostly black furniture highlights the view and colorful books and architectural models.
