Mad Yolks is a creation of two young entrepreneur brothers with a highly successful poke bar restaurant in downtown Santa Cruz. Their love for well crafted locally made food has brought them to experiment with food once more, this time with people’s most favorite meal - breakfast.
A breakfast spot in downtown Santa Cruz calls for a chill and approachable atmosphere. Our concept takes cues from all things egg - the perfectly rounded forms of an egg inspires us to use large egg shaped tiles in the restroom, the deep yellow color of egg yolks used as a pop against the green brand color, and loose curvy forms show up throughout the space, from a nook entry to the restroom, to the tall arched sconces along the long wall. The front bar showcases a literal version of a cracked egg, with a continuous “crack” on the face, that is used as an accent concealed lighting. The existing playful and intricate flooring is restored and preserved, to celebrate the history of the space, while a few rows of half circle floating shelves replicate the waves of the ocean.
Circles, curves, cracks, waves and colors are all coming together, stitching together a new version of what it means to eat eggs for breakfast, by the ocean.
